"RISK: STRUGGLE FOR POWER"

The 2011-12 shortened NBA season has reached the halfway mark, and there has already been over a hundred new story lines that can be discussed. There seems to be a “legit” team formed every week, and a new “star” born every night. I thought about the easiest way to dive into this season, and figured my best bet was to start by establishing the top teams at the start of each week. I am sure these teams will change each week, give or take a few. I am sure there will be plenty of room for argument…. especially when trying to justify the better of two teams with the same record. But, as for now, we have to start somewhere.

So here is my COUCH SPORTS EXPERT NBA TOP 10 RANKINGS: FEBRUARY 19TH Week

The Heat are playing “ridiculous” basketball….and they can’t even stay fully healthy. Just imagine how tough this team will be when all of their weapons are “fully loaded”.

Chicago has been able to hold their own, even with injuries to All-Star PG Derrick Rose. Remember what I said about the Heat’s “big guns”?

The more I watch Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook lead this talented, young team…the more I am convinced that they are the best team in the Western Conference.
4 21-9

So much for last season’s consensus that these veterans were washed-up and “done”.
5 20-11
Last Week: —
After a very, very slow start to the season, the defending Champs are finally looking to form.
6 20-11
Last Week: —
Coach Doug Collins has these guys playing phenomenal basketball.
7 19-9

We are deep enough into the season that it’s no longer a story line, but the it’s crazy how adding one key piece to a roster can completely change a team’s status.
8 18-12 –Last Week: — Any Kobe Bryant-led team will always be somewhere near the top. It is kind of strange to not see them as the best team in California though.
9 20-11 –Last Week: — Dwight Howard is just one of those young, dominant stars who can always keep his team in the race. But it will remain to be seen if they choose to build around him….or without him.
10 16-15
Last Week: —
Portland has put together a roster with the perfect mixture of youth, veteran, flashy, grind-it-out, speed, power, and finesse.
